THE MEANING BEHIND MY WORK

At the centre of everything I do is family. My beautiful wife and our two young daughters are my anchor and my inspiration. Human connection – between partners, parents, friends, generations- is where meaning lives. That’s what I’m always looking to reflect in my work.

I’m genuinely grateful that you’re here, considering me as the right person to photograph your wedding.

I’m Joseph Sarkodie, a wedding photographer based in Bateau Bay on the Central Coast of New South Wales.

I grew up in Tanzania, East Africa, to British and Ghanaian parents. Those early years spent often outdoors exploring, formed a deep love and appreciation of nature and that has remained ever since.

I later trained and qualified as an architect in the UK, a background that informs how I see composition, balance, and space. That career led me to Australia, which has been home now for almost two decades.

FINDING MY WAY.

Fifteen years ago, I made a deliberate decision to step away from convention and build a life around creative work that mattered to me. Photography became my vocation – and it continues to be.

Behind the lens

I married my wife in 2020, and three years later we moved to the Central Coast, where we now live with our two young daughters. Family life grounds everything I do, and it continues to inform how I photograph people – with care, patience, and respect for what matters most.

years of professional experience

It’s been a remarkable journey

I’ve been fortunate to work across the USA, Spain, the UK, Germany, and France, as well as extensively throughout Australia – capturing celebrations in wildly different landscapes, cultures, and light.

How I work

01.

I won’t over-pose you or interrupt what’s unfolding. I guide gently when needed, then step back – so you can stay present, relaxed, and focused on each other rather than the camera.

02.

I create a calm, reassuring atmosphere. Most couples tell me they feel at ease within minutes, allowing natural moments, real emotion, and genuine connection to surface without effort.

03.

I pay close attention to light, timing, and the small in-between moments – so you don’t have to. My role is to quietly support the flow of the day while capturing it honestly as it happens.

If you value authenticity, connection, and photography that feels both natural and considered, I’d love to hear from you.
